Azeri taxmen revoke claims against Turan

The Azerbaijani Tax Ministry has cancelled its decision to collect additional 37,000 manats from the “Turan” News Agency. Earlier, this decision triggered a criminal case against the news agency.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 7 the Preliminary Inquiry Department for Tax Crimes under the above Azeri Ministry started a preliminary inquiry within the above criminal case against the “Turan”, which found the actions illegitimate and complained to the court.

On September 15, the Baku City Local Income Department of the above Ministry cancelled the additional taxes earlier accrued on the “Turan” for 2014-2016. Those extra taxes plus sanctions amounting to 37,000 manats, the edition named “Contact.az” reported on September 15.

The department made the decision based on the outcomes of a desk audit, and notified the “Turan” about it by an official letter, the edition has specifies.

Lat us remind you also that Mekhman Aliev, the “Turan” Director, was detained on August 24 and arrested for three months on charges of illegal entrepreneurship and tax evasion. On September 11, the court changed his freedom restraint for police supervision.
