ECtHR refuses to reconsider its decision on Beslan terror act

The Judges of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) have refused to send the case on the capture of hostages in the Beslan School for reconsideration. Thus, Russia is obliged to pay over 2.9 million euros of compensation to the applicants.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 13, the ECtHR found the violation of the rights of relatives of those killed and injured at the capture of the Beslan School in 2004, and awarded 409 applicants with the compensation in the amount of 2,955 million euros, and another 88,000 euros as reimbursement for legal costs. The Russian Commissioner at the ECtHR appealed against this decision blaming the Court for using double standards. On August 31, "Beslan Mothers" criticized the Russia's position at the ECtHR.

The refusal to send the case "Tagaeva et al. versus Russia" to reconsideration means that Russia must pay the compensations to the applicants, the RIA “Novosti” reports.

Two ECtHR Judges, Dmitry Dedov from Russia and Khanlar Gadjiev from Azerbaijan, have stated that the Court should have taken into account such circumstances of the Beslan terror act in as "exceptional circumstances" and "huge emotional and psychological pressure" on officials, the RAPSI notes.
