MoJ promises compensations to Beslan terror act victims
The Russian Minister of Justice has announced the terms of payment of compensations awarded by the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) to relatives of the people killed and injured during the seizure of the Beslan School by terrorists in 2004.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 13, in the case on the seizure of the school in Beslan, the Strasbourg Court awarded 409 applicants with compensation in the total amount of 2.955 million euros and another amount of 88,000 euros to cover legal expenses. The Russian Commissioner to the ECtHR has challenged the above decision and accused the Strasbourg Court of using double standards. However, on September 19, judges of the ECtHR refused to send the case for reconsideration, and the decision took effect.
On October 10, Alexander Konovalov, Minister of Justice of the Russian Federation, announced that within a year, Russia would begin to pay compensation to victims of the terror act in Beslan.
"Within a year, we will start paying the compensation. All payments take place in accordance with a certain priority in approval," announced Alexander Konovalov as quoted by the "Izvestia".
The Minister has also added that compensations under the ECtHR's resolutions are pre-written in the annual budget of the Russian MoJ and "are usually paid on time."
