Sabsabi refuted his alleged refusal to return Dagestan women from Syria

Ziyad Sabsabi, a representative of the Chechen leadership, who heads the work of returning militants' families from Syria and Iraq, has denied rumours that he had stopped his activities because of the arrest of Zagidat Abakarova and Muslimat Kurbanova in Dagestan.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 24, a Makhachkala court arrested Zagidat Abakarova and Muslimat Kurbanova, mothers of many children, for two months each after their return from Syria.

"This is not true; we have no moral right to leave our citizens, whom we can save, in the territory of other countries. What happened in Dagestan should weigh on the conscience of its authorities and law enforcement bodies," Mr Sabsabi has stated.

According to law enforcers, both Dagestani women were on the federal wanted list for participation in an illegal armed formation (IAF), but the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) had declared that a voluntary surrender would by documented for the women; and it would allow them to avoid criminal liability.
