At least 1000 people come to Navalny's rally in Volgograd (+video)

Today, the police and independent observers counted about 1000 participants of the rally, organized by supporters of the opposition leader Alexei Navalny in Volgograd.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 9, Daniel Kurakin, a supporter of Navalny, submitted a notification to the Volgograd Committee on Interaction with Civil Society about a rally of 1500 people intended in Lenin Square on October 22. Alexei Navalny's arrival to the rally was expected. However, the action was not sanctioned.

"Within the last six weeks, we've filed about 60 notifications aiming to coordinate a rally-meeting with Alexei Navalny," Alexei Volkov, the coordinator of Navalny's Volgograd office, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

He noted that the rally was sanctioned for November 10, with the declared number of 1500 participants.

According to the police, Metallurgists' Square now hosts some 1000 people; about the same number has been reported by Alexei Ulyanov, an activist and a member of the Human Rights Council of Volgograd, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports from the place of the rally, adding that volunteers counted all who passed to the square through two entrance metal detectors, and reported about 1800 people present in the square.
