Azerbaijani activist arrested for 15 days

It was on the third day after the disappearance of Akhsan Abdullaev, an activist of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), when his relatives found out he had been placed under administrative arrest, reported the PFPA.

Akhsan Abdullaev disappeared on November 10, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed by an officer from the PFPA's press service.

"The police did not specify when the court had pronounced the decision about an administrative arrest and what specific charges had been filed against the activist. A man who phoned from the police just noted that the activists had written 'offensive statuses' on Facebook. And this fact already confirms the political nature of the arrest," said the PFPA's press service officer.

Akhsan Abdullaev took part in protests, explained Nureddin Mamedli, the head of the PFPA's Supreme Majlis.

"In connection with the rallies held by the National Council of Democratic Forces (NCDF) on September 23, October 7, and October 28, about 500 people, including the overwhelming majority of PFPA activists, were subjected to various forms of pressure: calls to police stations and detentions. 15 people were sentenced to up to 30 days of arrests. Several persons were dismissed from their jobs," reminded Nureddin Mamedli.

According to the Nureddin Mamedli's version, the authorities try to force people to abandon any political activities.
