Special operation in Tbilisi affects Dagestani tourist business

Some Dagestan travel agencies are forming groups to Georgia on New Year holidays; others decided to suspend such trips until spring after reports about unjustified non-admission to Georgia of tourists from Northern Caucasus.

On November 25, tourists from Dagestan and Chechnya reported that after the special operation in Tbilisi, their entrance to Georgia was prohibited. However, the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs has refuted this information.

The above special operation against the alleged militants was conducted in Tbilisi on November 21 and 22; one special troop's fighter was killed, and four others were wounded.

Timur Akhmedov, the head of the tour company "Team-Tour" said that tourists from Dagestan had faced no problems when entering Georgia prior to the special operation in Tbilisi. "However, on November 25, our group of tourists was not admitted to Georgia," he said.

According to local residents, the special operation in Tbilisi was against natives of Chechnya. There is information that Akhmed Chataev, who had been wanted in Russia and put on US sanctions lists, was killed during the operation.

Yukradin Salimkhanov, the Director General of the "Djaga" Company, has also suspended trips to Georgia after residents of Dagestan had faced problems with crossing the Georgian border.
