Russian militaries hold exercises in Armenia on combating militants
A three-day hands-on training ended on November 28 at the high-mountain ranges "Kamkhud" and "Alagyaz". Over 300 militaries took part in them.
The Russian military base in Gyumri was formed on September 1, 1994. Its missions are to cover the Russia's southern flank and secure defence of Armenia, as a member of the Collective Security Treaty.
As reported by the "Zvezda" (Star) TV Channel, over 200 contract soldiers have been trained in "survival courses"; about a third of them were women.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 11 it became known that the personnel of the Russian military base in Armenia had been renewed by more than 30%. In October, servicemen from Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kirghizia, Russia and Tajikistan took part in exercises held at the "Alagyaz" range.
