Two children evacuated from Syria to Chechnya
A ten-year-old boy and an eight-year-old girl, who had been brought by their father to Syria, were delivered to Grozny last night and handed over to their relatives.
The brother and sister have been in Syria for the past two years.
"We managed to transport them to Turkey, and from there they were taken out by their mother, who flew to Istanbul a day earlier. Now the children are in their own family," an employee of the office of the head and government of Chechnya told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
According to law enforcers their father, a resident of Chechnya, left for Syria in 2015 and joined militants there. "He is wanted for participation in an illegal armed formation (IAF) in the territory of a foreign state. There's no information about his fate," a Chechen law enforcement source said.
Chechen authorities are using the return of women and children from Syria and Iraq for their propaganda purposes, residents of Chechnya believe.
