"Portal" artists pay tribute to victims of Beslan terror attack (+video)
A monument to victims of a terror attack in Beslan, made by participants of the Vladikavkaz "Portal", appeared in Turkey in September 2017.
On September 1, 2004, militants took 1128 hostages and kept them in the gym of School No. 1 in Beslan. In total, 334 of them, including 186 children, perished, other 810 persons were injured.
The sculpture was installed in the Turkish village of Poyrazli, populated by descendants of Ossetian Muhajirs.
A cubic figure combined of pieces of metal symbolizes the school building at the time of the first explosions. There is a tap with running water inside the figure. Water flows, and one can hear and see it, but cannot reach it. It is a symbol of the three-day suffering of the hostages.
The ceremony to open the memorial was attended by victims of the terror act and members of the Committee "Mothers of Beslan".
The participants of the "Portal" used bicycles to reach the Ossetian village in Turkey. They made more than 1700 kilometres and installed various art objects on the road. Their art pilgrimage lasted three months.
