Police exclude arson of Rostov-on-Don district

Investigators failed to find any proofs of arson as the reason of the fire that occurred in August 2017 in central Rostov-on-Don, the spokesman of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) has stated.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the fire in the Proletarsky District of Rostov-on-Don occurred on August 21-22, 2017. As a result of the fire, one person perished, and 692 fire victims turned to the authorities for help.

Tenants of the burnt down houses suggested that the fire was arranged by "black realtors", who had planned to build a residential complex in the district.

The investigation is run under Part 2, Article 167 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (intentional destruction or damage to property); however, "there are no objective evidence of intentional destruction of property as a result of a fire," said the spokesman of Chief Department of the MIA for the Rostov Region.

He has noted that the investigation continues, and the list of fire victims, according to the MIA has gone up to 730.
