Preacher shot dead in Dagestan

Saigidakhmed Magomedov, a resident of the village of Mutsalaul, Khasavyurt District of Dagestan, was shot dead on January 6 at his house.

In the evening, unidentified men came to Magomedov's house and called him out. The man went out the gate and was shot dead, villagers told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

According to some villagers, the assassinated man was an Imam of the Quarter Village Mosque, which had been closed along with other Salafi mosques in Dagestan.

Since September 2015, two Imams have been killed in Dagestan. Also, several Salafi mosques were closed.

Imam Saigidakhmed Magomedov was killed by seven pistol shots after a conflict with unidentified men, the TASS reports quoting its law enforcement source from Dagestan.

The press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Dagestan has refuted the fact that the casualty was Imam.
