A woman from Derbent accuses law enforcers of kidnapping her son

Gulya Karakhanova has held solo pickets in front of the Derbent police station, the City Prosecutor's Office and the district administration. The woman demands to find her son who disappeared in May 2015.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on February 5, 15 mothers of disappeared residents of Dagestan, including Gulya Karakhanova, appealed to President Vladimir Putin with a request to investigate the disappearance of their sons. On February 9, at a protest action held in Makhachkala, 20 mothers demanded a meeting with Vasiliev and the chair of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) who had arrived in the republic with a visit.

According to the calculations run by the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial", only in the period from September 19 to October 4, 2016, in Dagestan, 12 people were kidnapped. Their disappearances presumably involved law enforcers.

"I've come to these actions because of my despair. I do not know how to draw the attention of the authorities and law enforcement bodies to my misfortune. For the third year, I cannot find my son. I know he was kidnapped by law enforcers," Gulya Karakhanova said.

According to the woman, during her pickets, she was not approached by any police officer, prosecutor or official from the Derbent administration.

Let us remind you that on May 6, 2015, Magomed Karakhanov disappeared from the territory of the Central City Hospital in Derbent.

The law enforcement bodies stated that he "had left for the forest." "My son is disabled, and he cannot even stand on his feet for 15 minutes," said Gulya Karakhanova as quoted by the newspaper "Chernovik" (Draft).
