French MFA criticizes Ilham Aliev's statement about historical lands of Azerbaijan
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) for France has urged the parties to the Karabakh conflict to avoid statements that could increase tension in the region.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on February 8, Ilham Aliev called on Azerbaijanis to return to their historical lands, among which he named Yerevan. Eduard Sharmazanov, Vice Speaker of the Armenian Parliament, treated the above statement as manifestation of territorial claims.
France remains committed to finding a solution to the Karabakh conflict through negotiations, the "Panarmenian.net" reports.
France "knows very well that the main reason for the tension in the region is the continuation of the military occupation of the Azerbaijani territories by Armenia," said in response Khikmet Gadjiev, the chief of the press service for the Azerbaijani MFA as quoted by the "Trend".
