In Yerevan, opposition actions arouse protest activity of citizens

Residents of Yerevan did not limit themselves to demonstrating solidarity with the activists protesting against the election the former president the Prime Minister of Armenia. Some of them openly joined the protesters.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 19, 122 activists were detained in Yerevan, while demonstrators and law enforcers exchanged accusations of provocation. At the action near the government building, the activists called on the law enforcers to lay down their arms.

On April 17, former President Serzh Sargsyan was elected the Prime Minister of Armenia, and after that Nikol Pashinyan announced a "peaceful revolution" in Armenia. The activists are dissatisfied with the fact that Serzh Sargsyan again headed the country, this time as the Prime Minister.

On Friday, policemen warned the activists that they were ready to use force to suppress offenses might be committed by participants of the protest actions. According to the law enforcement bodies, at least 166 people were detained.

Truck drivers also took part in the protest action. One of them explained that he had returned to Armenia from Russia to "stand together with the people for the sake of changes in the country."

The demonstrators were also joined by people employed in the IT sector.

Besides, a driver of a city bus refused to take detainees to a police station, and policemen had to drive the bus themselves.
