FSB treats 12 persons killed in Northern Caucasus as IS* participants

A militant from the Stavropol Territory and 11 other men killed by law enforcers during the counterterrorist operation (CTO), conducted in the Derbent District on April 21-24, were supporters of the "Islamic State", a terrorist organization banned in Russia, the Russia's Federal Security Bureau (FSB) has reported today.

The "Caucasian Knot" has informed that on April 21, law enforcers reported the liquidation of an IS* militant in the Stavropol Territory, who, according to the FSB, had plotted terror acts in the buildings of the territorial government and the FSB branch. On April 21-24, the Derbent District of Dagestan was under the CTO regime, during which eleven suspected militants were killed. According to the Russian National Antiterrorist Committee (NAC), two of them had been plotting terror acts during the May holidays.

All the 11 people killed during the CTO in Dagestan belonged to one underground unit of IS* supporters, the FSB asserts. "Having sworn to Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the IS* leader, who is in Syria, (they) had planned to commit resonant attack in Dagestan on law enforcers and government officials," the RIA "Novosti" quotes the FSB's statement.

*The "Islamic State" (IS, earlier – the ISIL) is a terrorist organization, banned in Russia by the court.
