IS threatens with explosions during 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia
The terrorist organization "Islamic State" (IS) banned in Russia has called on its supporters to commit terror acts during the 2018 FIFA World Cup, which matches will take place in the cities of Southern Russia.
The threats are voiced not for the first time. So, in October 2017, the IS published two posters with threats to arrange explosions at the FIFA World Cup events.
The 2018 FIFA World Cup will be held in Russia from June 14 to July 15. Matches will be hosted by the three cities of Southern Russia, including Rostov-on-Don, Sochi, and Volgograd, as well as Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Kaliningrad, Kazan, Nizhny Novgorod, Samara, Saransk, and Ekaterinburg.
The NGO "SITE Intelligence Group" published a poster of a French grouping affiliated with the IS, showing a knife cutting a piece from a football. On April 30 and 27, two posters of an Indonesian IS grouping were published. One of them depicts the symbols of the 2018 FIFA World Cup and the inscription stating that the IS fights against Russia. The other poster depicts a grenade in the hands of a man standing in a football field. A poster published on May 1 shows an aiming sight and a threat to European and Russian cities.
In 2017, the IS claimed responsibility for five attacks in Southern Russia and four attacks in other regions of the country.
