Stavropol Territory: this year's second CTO against militants
The shootout in the city of Nevinnomyssk, during which two men were killed, broke out less than two weeks after a similar incident, also in the Stavropol Territory.
On Friday, in the course of a counterterrorist operation (CTO), two leaders of an extremist religious cell were shot dead during detention. According to the Russia's Federal Security Bureau (FSB), they had planned to commit terror acts.
The previous CTO was reported by the FSB on April 21, when a militant of the terrorist organization "Islamic State" (IS) banned in Russia was killed. According to law enforcers, he had also plotted terror acts.
According to the "Caucasian Knot", another CTO was held in the Stavropol Territory on December 20, 2017, when a man blew up a house in Stavropol, and then was killed by special agents.
Let us remind you that in total, in 2017, three armed incidents were fixed in the Stavropol Territory.
Since 2010, when a terror act was committed at the culture palace, militants did not attack any sites in Stavropol. According to the calculations, run by the "Caucasian Knot", in 2017, the number of victims of the North-Caucasian armed conflicts went down by 39% as compared with 2016.
