Russian authorities find it impossible to get death convict from Iraq

A native of Northern Caucasus has been sentenced to death in Iraq for belonging to the "Islamic State" *IS) (a terrorist grouping banned in Russia by the court).

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in April, Alisa Ismailova and Elvira Magomedkhanova, natives of Dagestan, and 19 other Russian women were sentenced to life imprisonment in Iraq on charges of involvement in the IS. On a similar charge, three Azerbaijani women were sentenced to death.

The surname of the above convict is Khasanov (Khassanov), the "Military Review" writes with reference to Arab media.

Russian authorities have no legal grounds to demand the extradition of the person convicted in Iraq, since the provisions of the agreement on the transfer of convicts do not apply to those sentenced to death. This was stated by Maxim Travnikov, Deputy Minister of Justice. The transfer of the convict to Russia is possible only if Iraq agrees to change the death sentence for another punishment, for example, for life imprisonment, the "Interfax" reports.
