Baku registers 120-year air temperature record
On July 1, in Baku and the Absheron Peninsula, the air temperature reached 43-44°C, and that was a record for 120 years of observations, the National Department from the Azerbaijani Ministry of Ecology reports.
The earlier record air temperature was registered in Baku in August 2017, when the air warmed up to 41.6°C, the National Department from the Azerbaijani Ministry of Ecology reminded.
According to the agency, on July 1, the surface sea temperature on beaches of the Absheron Peninsula reached 29-30°C. On July 3-4, the air temperature will rise again above the mark of 40°C.
The abnormal hot weather came to Baku on June 27. The Ministry for Public Health has recommended people not to stay under the sun in the daytime and drink more water. In turn, the Ministry of Labour has recommended employers to stop works under direct sunlight during the period of the abnormal hot weather.
