Law enforcers voice reasons for special actions in Derbent

Law enforcement sources have reported that on July 26 a search was conducted in a high-rise apartment house in the city of Derbent, which the locals took for a counterterrorist operation (CTO), intended to block militants.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported, citing its sources, that in one of the flats of the cordoned off apartment house there were militants; and law enforcers evacuated tenants from the building.

One apartment of the above five-storey house was being searched with the involvement of OMON (riot police) fighters, a law enforcement source has explained.

"Local residents made a panic; they began writing in social networks that a CTO was allegedly going on," said the source.

The special activities in Derbent were carried out within a criminal case initiated against one of the tenants of the house, the RIA "Dagestan" reports. According to a law enforcement source, the activities were not connected with the armed underground.
