In Azerbaijan, list of political prisoners reduced by ten persons

The Azerbaijani Centre for the Protection of Political Prisoners (CPPP) has updated the list of political prisoners and reduced it to 151 people. The names of nine new arrested people were added and other 19, released in the past six months, were excluded from the list.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that as of January 15, the CPPP counted 161 political prisoners.

The list of political prisoners has been updated at the today's meeting held by the CPPP. "This January, after our recent update of the list of political prisoners, 19 people were released. Of them, 11 were pardoned by the presidential decree issued in May, while the rest were released after termination of their sentences or were set free conditionally," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed by Ogtai Gyulyalyev, a coordinator of the CPPP.

For the incomplete eight months that have passed since the recent update of the list of political prisoners, new politically motivated arrests have been made, Ogtai Gyulyalyev said. "We studied those cases. And today, we have agreed that at least nine more people are political prisoners," the CPPP's coordinator stated.
