At OSCE conference, activists demand to release Titiev
Activists dressed in T-shirts with inscriptions in support of Oyub Titiev, the head of the Grozny office of the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial", and film director Oleg Sentsov came today to the OSCE conference in Warsaw.
Oyub Titiev is under arrest since January 11 on charges of possessing marijuana. He insists that the drug had been planted on him by a law enforcer.
In 2015, Oleg Sentsov, a Ukrainian film director, was sentenced to 20 years of imprisonment for creating a terrorist community. The Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" recognized him as a political prisoner.
A silent action in support of Oyub Titiev and Oleg Sentsov took place during the opening of the annual meeting of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe on the Human Dimension (HDIM OSCE) in Warsaw, the HRC "Memorial" has reported in its Telegram channel "Oyub Titiev's case".
The photos posted by the HRC "Memorial" show participants in the action wearing white T-shirts with the inscription #saveolegsentsov and black T-shirts with the inscription #saveoyub, standing behind the speakers.
Olga Aivazovskaya, a member of the Ukrainian delegation, has reported that the action was held during the speeches of Russian delegates. "When delegates from the Russian Federation come forward, activists in T-shirts bearing the names of Kremlin's political prisoners are lining up opposite them," Olga wrote on her Facebook page. It is noteworthy that there are Russian citizens among the participants of the action.
