Circassian activists argue about ICA's influence on conflict in Kendelen

The Congress of the International Circassian Association (ICA) has finished without announcement of a position on the conflict in the village of Kendelen, and the statement will be announced later, reported participants of the event. The ICA's statement will not help to stop the confrontation, believes activist Zaurbiy Chundyshko.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on September 19, the International Circassian Association (ICA) congress was opened in Nalchik. The forum, which gathered about 300 Circassians from Russia and other countries, took place against the background of clashes in Kendelen.

The ethnic conflict between Kabardians and Balkars, which arose around the 310th anniversary of the Kanjali Battle, occurred on September 18, when residents of the Kendelen village did not let participants of the equestrian procession organized in memory of the Kanjali Battle to pass through the village. Historians explained the conflict by a land dispute.

On September 19, participants of the ICA's Congress discussed incidents in the village of Kendelen, reported Asker Sokht, the deputy chairman of the "Adyge Khase" for the Krasnodar Territory.

In general, members of the ICA believe the conflict between Kabardians and Balkars "should be resolved under the law," noted the activist.

The statement on the events in Kendelen will not help to resolve the conflict, believes Zaurbiy Chundyshko, the chairman of the Maikop public organization "Adyge Khase".

On the contrary, Ali Aslanov, the chairman of the public movement "Adyge Khase" for Karachay-Cherkessia, believes the call voiced by the ICA "will reach its addressee."
