A Gazakh resident dies after torture at police station, his sister reports

Teimur Akhundov, a resident of Gazakh, died after being summoned to the local district police department on September 25. His sister reported the signs of torture on his body. The police claim that the man died at the district diagnostic centre, where he was brought because he felt bad.

Teimur Akhundov was summoned for testimony and he never returned, reported Ulviya Akhundova, a sister of the deceased man, on the air of the "Meydan.tv".

According to the woman, there were signs of violence on the body. She believes that her brother was beaten to death. "He did not suffer from diseases. But his hands, his wrist, and his legs were injured. His knees were crushed, and we extracted small stones from his knee cups: he was probably dragged," Ulviya Akhundova said.

The woman noted that family members of the deceased man filed complaints to the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) for Azerbaijan, the Prosecutor's Office, and the district authorities.

On September 25, Teimur Akhundov was at the Gazakh District Police Department, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed by an on duty policeman.

"The man was summoned for a conversation. But he felt bad here, we called an ambulance, and he died already at the district diagnostic centre," the on duty policeman said.

Criminal proceedings are instituted on the fact of the Teimur Akhundov's death, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed at the Prosecutor's Office for the Gazakh District.
