Sulieta Kusova, President of Dagestani "Kunaki" Film Festival, dies
Today, journalist Sulieta Kusova has died. She was 67 years old. Sulieta Kusova was preparing to undergo a surgery, but she rescheduled it to take part in the "Kunaki" Film Festival last week, reported Ali Kamalov, the chairman of the Dagestani Union of Journalists.
In the period from November 4 to November 10, Makhachkala hosted the 12th North-Caucasian Film and TV Festival "Kunaki". On November 8, in the capital of Dagestan, activists planted 23 trees to pay tribute to the memory of Russian journalists associated with Northern Caucasus, including Akhmednabi Akhmednabiev, a "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
The "Kunaki" Film Festival is named after the old Caucasian idea of the "kunaki spirit": hospitality and friendship between people of different nationalities and religions.
According to Ali Kamalov, the chairman of the Dagestani Union of Journalists, Sulieta Kusova was preparing to undergo a heart surgery, but rescheduled it to take part in the "Kunaki" Film Festival.
Ilyas Bogatyryov, the director of the "Kunaki" Film Festival, has reported that Sulieta Kusova will be buried in her small homeland in Adygea.
"For us, that is an irreparable loss. We have lost an ideological inspirer, a person who cared about the people," Ilyas Bogatyryov said in his interview to the "Sputnik-Abkhazia".
Sulieta Kusova was actively involved in projects aimed at presenting the positive image of the Caucasus and its people to residents of Russia.
