Chechen authorities called suicide bombing result of recruitment by IS*

The woman, who blew herself up at a checkpoint in Grozny, has been recruited by members of the "Islamic State" (IS), a terrorist organization, banned in Russia by the court, Djambulat Umarov, the Chechen Minister for National Policy, External Relations, Press and Information, believes.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported, referring to the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) that on November 17, near the checkpoint in the Staropromyslovsky District of Grozny, a woman committed a suicide bombing. Nobody was hurt among law enforcers or civilians.

The Chechen MIA reported that she was identified by the documents she had on her as Karina Spiridonova, a 25-year-old native of Adygea. The Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) has confirmed the suicide bomber's identity.

Minister Umarov is confident that Spiridonova had been recruited by extremists, the TASS reports.

"This is the style of the IS*, who else is engaged in self-explosions? This is another zombie victim," Mr Umarov has stated today. According to his story, in the youth environment "there is a problem of neophytes who accept Islam as a new fashion." "Such people are more likely to be recruited," the RIA "Novosti" quotes the Minister as saying.

According to Djambulat Umarov, the suicide bomber was sent to Chechnya in order to "create the appearance of tension in the region."

* Islamic State (IS, former ISIL) has been recognized a terrorist organization and banned in Russia by the court ruling.

  • Analysts assess Dagestani head’s statement on appeals of SMO fighters

The appeals of the participants of the special military operation (SMO) in Ukraine from Dagestan to republic’s authorities are caused by many local problems and remain one of the ways to attract officials’ attention.
