A resident of Kuban reports details of beating by law enforcers

Yevgeny Bunin, a resident of the Tuapse District, has complained about torture and reported the deterioration in his health state after beating by law enforcers.

On November 19, he informed the human rights organization "Committee against Torture" (CaT) that on November 12, law enforcers beat him demanding to confess to a crime. According to him, after he was threatened that he would be beaten all night and detained as a suspect, he wrote a confession under dictation of the law enforcers.

Yevgeny Bunin has noted that a law enforcer beat him mostly to his head, and the torture lasted more than three hours. According to him, the law enforcer who beat him boasted that he was a master of sports in boxing and "he would show how to beat."

Later, at the hospital, the man was diagnosed with brain concussion. The law enforcers visited him at the hospital and tried to persuade him to withdraw a complaint about torture.

Yevgeny Bunin has noted that he is now afraid of provocations from the law enforcers.

There is no direct evidence that Yevgeny Bunin got bodily injuries namely at building of the law enforcement body, reported Roman Veretennikov, a lawyer of the CaT's Krasnodar branch. He believes that the law enforcers wanted to solve the crime quickly.

  • Analysts assess Dagestani head’s statement on appeals of SMO fighters

The appeals of the participants of the special military operation (SMO) in Ukraine from Dagestan to republic’s authorities are caused by many local problems and remain one of the ways to attract officials’ attention.
