Former workers of "Nairit" plant block building of Armenian government

Today, in Yerevan, participants of a rally have demanded to pay them penalties for delaying the wages due to workers of the "Nairit" plant. The protestors have also demanded a meeting with Nikol Pashinyan.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the "Nairit" plant, which used to produce chloroprene rubber in demand on world markets, has been standing idle since April 2010. Former workers of the plant regularly hold protests with the demands to restore the "Nairit" plant.

Besides, also starting from 2011, workers of the "Nairit" plant have been seeking the payment of wage arrears. On August 4, 2015, the debt was paid after the conclusion of an agreement with the plant administration. However, former workers of the plant claim they were forced to sign the above agreement by means of blackmail and to refuse fines and penalties that had accumulated because of the wage arrears.

The today's protest has gathered about 100 people, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed by Anait Manukyan, one of the protesters.

The former workers of the "Nairit" plant have blocked the entrance to the building of the Armenian government. They have voiced the demand to meet acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. The activists also demand the payment of penalties for delayed wages. According to them, they refused the penalty under pressure from the plant administration, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports from the place.
