Father of shepherds killed in Dagestan points to inefficiency of Putin's promises
The promise of President Vladimir Putin to take the case under his personal control had no effect on the course of investigation, the father of the killed Gasanguseinov brothers-shepherds, has stated.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 20 at a press conference in Moscow, Mr Putin promised to "pay attention" to the murder case of Gasanguseinov brothers. After that, their father decided to suspend his protests.
It was Elena Yeskina, a journalist of the "Dagestan" State TV and Radio Company, who asked Putin to take the shepherds' murder case under his personal control. Khabib Nurmagomedov, a well-known athlete, expressed gratitude to Putin and the journalist on behalf of "all Dagestanis"; however, his subscribers criticized Putin and the athlete for not telling the president about the case of his fellow countrymen.
After the press conference, no changes occurred, Murtazali Gasanguseinov, the father, has stated. However, mass media and some State Duma MPs got interested in the brothers' murder and expressed their readiness to support the father.
Holding public actions to draw attention to the inefficient work of state bodies will bring fruit, Marat Ismailov, a lawyer, believes.
"It is clear from media publications that, albeit with difficulties, the investigation is still underway. The fact that the problem was raised at the president's press conference won't make any harm. Law enforcement bodies should be interested in the speedy investigation of this case. After all, this is an issue of trust in them," the lawyer has added.
