Land swap agreement with Chechnya shakes rating of head of Ingushetia

The authority of Yunus-Bek Evkurov in the eyes of the Kremlin has shaken due to the establishment of the border with Chechnya against the background of protests in Ingushetia, political analysts assert.

Yunus-Bek Evkurov, the head of Ingushetia, has topped the list of Russian governors, whose rating has plummeted for the half of this year. Polls were conducted in Russian regions in late October and early November, the RBC reports, citing the sources. The rating is one of the important criteria that Moscow is guided by when making decisions with respect to governors, political analysts have noted.

Mr Evkurov has been heading Ingushetia since 2008. Opponents of the agreement on the Chechen-Ingush administrative border, signed by Evkurov with Ramzan Kadyrov, starting from this autumn are demanding Evkurov's resignation.

Evgeny Minchenko, a political analyst, is sure that a drop in Evkurov's rating will not cause his resignation.

The low Evkurov's rating has showed that his position has shaken badly in the eyes of the Kremlin, Nikolai Petrov, a political analyst, believes. In his opinion, "Evkurov irrevocably lost his support by the Kremlin."

"Several times, he made very serious mistakes; and the situation with the border showed that the Kremlin would not constantly support him as the leader of Ingushetia," Mr Petrov has stated.

  • Analysts assess Dagestani head’s statement on appeals of SMO fighters

The appeals of the participants of the special military operation (SMO) in Ukraine from Dagestan to republic’s authorities are caused by many local problems and remain one of the ways to attract officials’ attention. Despite the statement by the head of Dagestan, Sergey Melikov, that the combatants record their appeals as a result of "manipulations," he will have to respond to them, analysts believe.
