Awards to officials for fixing border with Ingushetia surprise residents of Chechnya

Ali Sadullaev, the Speaker of the Chechen Parliament, who took part in defining the Chechen-Ingush border, has received an order; five other members of the commission received honourable diplomas and letters of gratitude. The residents of Chechnya, interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot", have disagreed with these awards, because they treat the border agreement as unprofitable for Chechnya.

As reported, on September 26, Ramzan Kadyrov and Yunus-Bek Evkurov signed an agreement on fixing the Chechen-Ingush border. The Constitutional Court (CC) of Ingushetia refused to approve the legality of this agreement, but on December 6, the CC of Russia passed an opposite decision.

The border agreement caused mass protests in Ingushetia; however, there were no protest actions in Chechnya. The residents of Chechnya, interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot", have also stated that they were dissatisfied with the new border, but urged to agree with the decision of the Russian CC.

In the opinion of Abubakar, a Chechen historian, the participants of the border fixing process should be not awarded, but punished. According to his version, the republic "has lost more than gained."

The border has been solved in favour of Ingushetia, Sultan, a teacher from Grozny, believes.

"We received abandoned territories bordering on the Achkhoi-Martan and Sunzha Districts, which had been already ours. Of course, there is no question of a fair solution to the border problem," he is sure.
