Advocate of Chechen native demands to initiate torture case in colony

Apti Akiev, a native of Chechnya, who is serving his prison term in the Omsk Region, was beaten up while being moved from a correctional facility. When Akiev was convoyed, they lost keys to the handcuffs, as a result, the handcuffs were drilled through, and Akiev received burns. However, an investigator saw no grounds for opening a criminal case. His decision has been appealed against, Tatiana Okushko, Akiev's advocate, has stated.

She believes that "such cruel manipulations with the removal of handcuffs from a person's hands with the help of an electric drill can be equated to torture."

According to Ms Okushko, Akiev also said that he had been beaten up during convoying.

"Apti told me that they insulted him on the way; then, knocked him down and started beating him," said the advocate.

The complaint lodged to the court says that "the check of the fact of physical violence against Akiev was conducted formally and one-sidedly."

Let us remind you that last December it became known about the complaint to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) about torture in the Omsk colony, submitted by inmates-natives of Northern Caucasus.
