In Pyatigorsk, police disrupt solo picket in support of LGBTs

In Pyatigorsk, law enforcers have detained Ekaterina Danko, a solo picketer in support of Chechen LGBT people.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on January 11, the "Novaya Gazeta" reported on another wave of persecution of gays in the Chechen Republic. According to the Russian LGBT Network, since the end of December 2018, about 40 people were detained in Chechnya for their supposed or actual non-traditional sexual orientation; two persons were killed.

Ekaterina Danko held a picket on January 27 near the residence of the plenipotentiary envoy of the president of the Russian Federation to the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD) as part of the campaign "Save LGBTs in Russia!" She was holding a poster "Don't look away from torture in Chechnya!" the "newstracker.org" reports.

The police of Pyatigorsk detained the solo picketer; however, an hour after her detention, Ms Danko was released without drawing up a protocol on an administrative offense, the "OVD-Info" reports with reference to Artyom Shitukhin, the chairman of the LGBT movement "Solidarity".
