Man killed in CTO in Nalchik

During a shootout with law enforcers, one of the persons blocked today in a private house in Nalchik was killed, law enforcement sources have reported.

The counterterrorist operation (CTO) regime was introduced in Nalchik, the capital of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR), today, at 4:05 a.m. Moscow time.

A shootout broke out in the CTO area in Nalchik of law enforcers with two armed men, the "Interfax-South" wrote today, citing its informed source.

Law enforcers blocked a private house in the "Alexandrovka" micro-district, where, allegedly, armed people are hiding, the RIA "Novosti" quotes its source in the KBR's power structures.

When offered to surrender, they opened fire on law enforcers; one of the gunmen was killed by response fire, a source said.

According to the source, earlier law enforcers received information about the possible whereabouts of members of a religious extremist grouping and their accomplices; presumably, they were preparing terror acts.
