On Natalia Estemirova's birthday, AI calls for investigation into her murder

During ten years, the murder of Natalia Estemirova has never been effectively investigated, the "Amnesty International" (AI) declares on the birthday of the murdered rights defender who would celebrate her 61st birthday today.

On July 15, 2009, Natalia Estemirova, a staff member of the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" office in Chechnya, was kidnapped in Grozny, brought to Ingushetia, and murdered. She actively spoke out against kidnappings, extrajudicial executions, and falsifications of criminal cases.

"Today, my mother would be 61 years old, but she cannot celebrate her birthday. I cannot bake a cake for her and prepare carefully a gift for her," said a daughter of Natalia Estemirova as quoted today by the AI in Twitter.

The human rights organization stated that the investigation into the Natalia Estemirova's murder had been ineffective. "We demand justice in the Natalia Estemirova's case," the AI states.
