Fired Ingush activist disagrees with court ruling

The court made a biased decision by refusing to reinstate Angela Matieva, fired for absenteeism; the judgement will be challenged, the activist herself has stated.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Angela Matieva, who opposed the border agreement with Chechnya, was dismissed from the "Ingushneft" (a subsidiary of the "Rosneft") in December 2018. According to her version, she lost her job for political reasons. On March 5, the court refused to reinstate Matieva at work.

The company has explained Matieva's dismissal by her absenteeism at corporate training courses. She herself claims that she felt bad, but did not refuse to attend the courses.

"Her health was not so serious as to skip seminars; and the employer can fire an employee, if he finds it reasonable," a company official has stated.

Matieva's advocate has noted that the need for treatment alone is a valid excuse.

"She was fired not because she's a bad worker; she's a good worker," said Khabibula Besaev, an activist. According to his version, the customized dismissal is evidenced by the fact that "Rosneft" bosses have immediately ordered to dismiss Matieva, without clearing out the situation.

"Before that, her merits were recognized; but then she was fired for going to hospital," said Zarifa Sautieva, a former deputy director of the Memorial Complex for Repression Victims.

Ms Sautieva was also fired on January 25, after she took part in protests against the changing of the border with Chechnya.
