Zurabishvili's words about NATO remind the powers of Georgian President

The President of Georgia has not enough levers to implement her initiatives, political analysts have stated after Salome Zurabishvili's speech on the Georgia's Euro-Atlantic policies. On March 6, the opposition boycotted the president's speech in the parliament in protest against election frauds.

Ms Zurabishvili's statements may remain "just statements", said Nika Chitadze, the head of the Centre for Security Studies and International Relations. He has pointed out that Georgia's integration into NATO depends on the development of democratic institutions. However, in his opinion, these institutions are not being strengthened.

On March 6, Salome Zurabishvili addressed the MPs for the first time after her election in December 2018. According to her story, the NATO is positively evaluating the political and military reforms in Georgia.

She also stated that Georgia would not accept the occupation of its territories. She raised the issue of the need to update the negotiation format on Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

The President of Georgia has only one function left – pardoning inmates, but Salome Zurabishvili wants to get rid of it too, said Akaki Bobokhidze, an MP from the "European Georgia" Party.

  • Analysts assess Dagestani head’s statement on appeals of SMO fighters

The appeals of the participants of the special military operation (SMO) in Ukraine from Dagestan to republic’s authorities are caused by many local problems and remain one of the ways to attract officials’ attention.
