Authorities of Chechnya and Dagestan suspend border demarcation

The entry of data on Chechen-Dagestani border into the state registry of real estate has been suspended, the speakers of both parliaments have announced without specifying the reasons.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that authorities of Chechnya and Dagestan agreed to define their mutual border. On March 16, Chechnya unilaterally registered a disputable piece of land on the border with the Kizlyar district of Dagestan as its territory. A source from Ramzan Kadyrov's office explained that Chechnya had received no Dagestan's reaction.

Political analysts believe that the demarcation of regional borders is of little interest to the federal centre, but the actions of the Chechen authorities on borders with neighbouring republics are creating problems for the Kremlin in the Caucasus.
