Georgian city of Gori suggests to restore monument to Stalin

The restoration of monument to Joseph Stalin in his homeland in Gori will increase the number of tourists, Ketevan Yardalashvili, the head of the local tourism information centre, has explained her idea.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in 2010, a monument to Stalin, erected in his homeland in the city of Gori, was dismantled. Residents of Gori collected signatures for the restoration of the monument; and in 2014, they held protests demanding the return of the monument. However, on October 2, 2015, the Gori city assembly rejected the initiative. On December 21, 2017, in honour of the 138th anniversary of Stalin's birth, his bust was installed on the central square of the city.

The restoration of the monument to Stalin is necessary in order to increase the number of tourists, the "Sova" magazine reports citing the above opinion of Ms Yardalashvili.

Georgia has adopted a ban on the use of symbols embodying the totalitarian communist regime.

The first place among the countries, whose citizens are interested in the museum of Stalin, is taken by Russia, then go China and Iran, the "Echo of the Caucasus" reports.
