Kenkhi villager, who left because of threats, reproached authorities for silencing problems

After numerous complaints addressed to Chechen authorities, the problems of the residents of the village of Kenkhi, Sharoi District, remain unresolved.

The resettlement programme from landslide-prone areas is inactive; houses are not restored; while reports about construction of new roads and a school are not true, Ramazan Djalaldinov, a native of Kenkhi, has stated.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that back in April 2016, Djalaldinov complained about the difficult situation in the village. After that, his house was burned down; his wife and children had to leave for Dagestan; and later Ramazan himself had to leave Chechnya because of threats.

According to his story, contrary to authorities' statements, Kenkhi has seen no serious changes. Local media report that new roads and a school are being built in the village, but "there is nothing like that."
Mr Djalaldinov said that he still cannot return to Chechnya because of fears for his life. Besides, according to his story, threats were received by other Kenkhi villagers, who wanted to tell authorities about their problems.

Ramazan believes that only an appeal to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) can change his situation.

  • Compensation decrease for illegal prosecution violates rights of KBR resident

The court ruling, which awarded Madin Gubzhokov compensation of 30,000 roubles for unlawful criminal prosecution, is incomparable with the moral harm caused by the actions of Azamat Kyaov, a former law enforcer. The amount is ridiculous and should be appealed against, lawyers and human rights defenders have stated.
