Law enforcers are on duty at road signs on Dagestani-Chechen border

The Chechen signposts on the border with the Tarumovka District of Dagestan are under the guard of armed law enforcers. Residents of this district had no territorial disputes with Chechnya, said local villagers.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 10, a video appeared on the Internet of demolition of a Chechen road sign installed in Dagestan. On June 11, a protest action was held at one of the Chechen signposts; and on June 12 it became known about the demolition of two more signposts installed on the Chechen-Dagestani border.

Alisher Mengimurzaev, the head of the dwelling settlement of Aleksandro-Nevskoye, has noted that there had never been disputes among Chechens and Dagestanis over the ownership of these territories.

"No one has ever claimed this land. Everyone knows that these are Chechen lands," a local resident has confirmed. Locals have good neighbourly relations with the Chechens who work on this land, he has noted.

"All this noise is made by politicians. The main point for people is to have an opportunity to work," he has added.

Another local resident has treated the reason for the demolition of signposts in the absence of the explanatory work, which the authorities had been obliged to conduct. "It was necessary to explain that this is the Chechen territory; and signs are installed in their lands. Those, who don't know the situation, think that Chechens had simply seized the territory and installed the signs," he has explained.
