Abdulmumin Gadjiev arrested for two months

Today, in Makhachkala, the court has pronounced the decision to take into custody Abdulmumin Gadjiev, the editor of the newspaper "Chernovik" (Draft), suspected of financing terrorists.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that during the today's court hearing, supporters of the detained journalist held a picket.

At the request of the Prosecutor's Office, the court hearing was held behind closed doors, and the judge pronounced the decision to detain Abdulmumin Gadjiev to take into custody for two months, the "Chernovik" reports.

According to advocates, the defence provided the court with 26 positive characteristics from Abdulmumin Gadjiev's neighbours, as well as publications showing the journalist's attitude towards terrorism. Besides, the defence told the court that the only testimony of Kemal Tambiev is not enough to imprison the journalist, the "Chernovik" reports.

In the same case, two other people were detained, including Kemal Tambiev and Abubakar Rizvanov, the head of the "Ansar" charity foundation. Investigators explained the detention of the journalist by the presence of the Kemal Tambiev's interrogation records confirming the suspicions of the investigators. However, Abdulmumin Gadjiev said that he first saw Kemal Tambiev after the detention, and he "apologized and said he had been tortured." Later, Kemal Tambiev told his advocate that he was under pressure when he gave testimony against the journalist of the newspaper "Chernovik" and signed the interrogation protocol without reading it.
