Azerbaijani oppositionist complains about police threats

Today, activist Sakhib Rustamli has been taken to a police station and warned for criticizing the authorities on social networks and issues of the online opposition TV channel. This has been reported by the activist himself. Members of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA) treat the detention of Sakhib Rustamli as a part of the campaign to persecute oppositionists.

"They warned me in connection with my activities on Facebook and on the 'Turan' TV channel. The police leaders have told me that in case if I continue 'such activities,' then the police will take more severe measures," Sakhib Rustamli told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"I was arrested more than once ... Nothing can make me retract my political views and journalistic activities," the journalist emphasized.

Gezyal Bairamly, the deputy chair of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan, has stated that Sakhib Rustamli is one of the most active PFPA's leaders in the region of Mugan.

"On June 28, PFPA's leader Ali Kerimli was detained. He was set free later. However, they apparently decided to increase pressure on other activists," noted Gezyal Bairamly.

Ogtai Gyulyalyev, the coordinator of the Committee against Torture and Repression, also associates the detention of Sakhib Rustamli with his opposition activities.
