Tbilisi: LGBT opponents threaten to hold everyday actions

Opponents of the "March of Dignity" have announced their plans to meet every day in front of the building of the Georgian Parliament, where actions are held for resignation of the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA). They demanded to repeal the anti-discrimination law and to ban public LGBT actions.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 7, LGBT activists refused to hold the "March of Dignity" in Tbilisi scheduled for on July 8, because of threats from supporters of traditional values. Opponents of the march gathered in Tbilisi aiming to disrupt the LGBT action, held by activists outside the MIA building, but failed to meet them. In the evening on July 7, outside the parliament building, a conflict broke out of opponents of the march and the oppositionists, who demanded resignation of the Interior Minister. The police prevented mass clashes and detained one person.

Earlier, the LGBT organization named "Tbilisi Pride" demanded from law enforcers to ensure the safety of the marchers.

"Let Minister Archil Talakvadze come here and give a promise to abolish the anti-discrimination law," said Levan Vasadze, a businessman and one of the organizers of the anti-LGBT action, the "Imedi" TV Channel has reported.
