Ingush activist intimidated, his defence reports
Khasan Katsiev, accused of attacking law enforcers at a rally in Magas, are visited by unidentified people in the SIZO (pre-trial prison), who demand from him to plead guilty, a lawyer reports. He has requested the Prosecutor's Office to check the complaint filed by Khasan Katsiev.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 23, Ingush activist Khasan Katsiev was detained together with Akhmed Nalgiev and Rashid Aushev. Three activists are suspected in the case on clashes with law enforcers at a rally in Magas.
Vitaly Zubenko, a lawyer of the human rights organization "Agora", reported that unidentified people tried to persuade his client to plead guilty. Khasan Katsiev claimed that he was intimidated and blackmailed.
"He was threatened that in punishment for his hard line, drugs could be unexpectedly found among his belongings or he could be placed to a cell with inmates whose moral characters were incompatible with the Khasan Katsiev's religion (Islam)," the complaint states.
Let us remind you that in April, Khasan Katsiev was detained because of opposing the agreement on the border with Chechnya. The activist also stated that two days before his dismissal from the police in February 2014, he had been tortured by law enforcers.
