Police forces "Karabakh" Committee to cancel rally in Baku

The Baku Mayoralty and police did not allow the "Karabakh" Public Committee to hold a rally in protest against the protraction of the settlement of the Karabakh conflict.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on September 29, 2018, a rally was held in Baku demanding from the Azerbaijani authorities to start a forced "liberation of Karabakh". However, Baku treated the rally as inappropriate, since the government was already using all the resources to resolve the conflict.

The "Karabakh" Committee includes 17 political parties and public organizations, as well as 13 veterans of the Karabakh War.

"The territories of Azerbaijan have been occupied for almost 30 years. Forced migrants cannot return to their homeland. At the same time, negotiations within the OSCE Minsk Group give absolutely no results," said Panakh Gusein, the chairman of the People's Party of Azerbaijan.

By their decision, the Baku police have created a moot case, Tural Abbasly, a member of the organizing committee for the rally, has stated. According to his version, the Committee will complain to the court about the police.

Bashir Suleimanly, the head of the Civil Rights Institute, treats the actions of the city authorities and the police of suppressing protest actions as unlawful.
