Exercises on counteracting militants held in Chechnya

More than 500 military servicemen of motorized rifle units of the Southern Military District took part in the exercises to destroy a conditional illegal armed formation (IAF), the republic's Military Commander's Office has reported.

According to the Office, about 200 units of weapons and military equipment were involved.

According to the scenario of the exercises, the conditional opponent tried to dislodge the troops from their key positions, but they "blocked and liquidated the opponent." The militaries used, in particular, the "Gvozdika" self-propelled howitzers and the "Grad" missile launchers, says the website of the Southern Military District.

Earlier, more than 400 gunners held their exercises in the mountains of Chechnya. They studied the tactics of "wandering" mortars, which is used in modern wars.
