Law enforcers detain LGBT activists in Volgograd

In Volgograd, seven LGBT activists were brought to police stations after they came to the square where an action sanctioned by the authorities was taking place, activist Vladislav Pogorelov reported.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 7, activist Vladislav Pogorelov claimed that the Volgograd city administration refused to sanction a rally "For the rights of LGBT youth in Russia". According to the city administration, there had been earlier notification that a rally to highlight the problem of children's road traffic injuries would be held on that very day. The rally suggests the presence of minors, and that may lead to dissemination of information, "denying family values and promoting non-traditional sexual relations," forbidden for distribution among children.

Today, Volgograd has hosted the action on the problem of children's road traffic injuries. The action was sanctioned by the authorities.

During the above rally, LGBT activist Vladislav Pogorelov appeared on the square with a folded poster in his bag. After a dialogue between Vladislav Pogorelov and participants of the action, sanctioned by the authorities, policemen took the LGBT activist away from the square. After some time, several more members of the gay movement came to the square. One of the LGBT activists had a rainbow flag painted on her face. A policeman requested the LGBT activists to produce their IDs and took them to a police station. According to the policeman, there was a complaint against the LGBT activists. After that, several more LGBT activists were taken away from the square, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reported from the place.

Later, Vladislav Pogorelov reported that, according to his information, seven persons were brought to the police stations.
