Tbilisi court rejects Gvaramiya's appeal against bail judgement

The Tbilisi Court of Appeal has found the judgement of the lower instance court about a bail as the freedom restriction measure for Nika Gvaramiya, a former director general of the "Rustavi-2" TV Company, accused of embezzlement.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 9, Nika Gvaramiya was charged under the article on using his service powers to extract profits, which entailed a significant damage. On August 11, the Tbilisi City Court partially granted the motion of the Prosecutor's Office and appointed a bail in the amount of 40,000 laris (more than USD 13,000) as a freedom restriction measure for Mr Gvaramiya. The defendant refused to pay the bail; and his defence appealed against the judgement.

Today, the Tbilisi Court of Appeal found the Gvaramiya's complaint inadmissible, as he filed it after the deadline for appeal.

Nika Gvaramiya and his advocate, Dmitry Sadzaglishvili, have stated on air of the "Rustavi-2" TV Company that they had expected such a judgement. In their opinion, the court was not free in making an "independent and objective judgement," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, who watched the TV broadcast, reports.
